Friday Frippery (I don’t know, it just sounded good)

Is it just me, or has the weather these past couple years just been manic?  100 degree days in March and 70’s in August (which is typically the hottest month overall)?  Tsunami’s, earthquakes, flooding…seems to me the great mother has had her fill and is cleaning house.  Makes you wonder where the line is and when (IF) there is an end to the juggled weather that seems to be thinning the ranks.

Perhaps the message has more to do with us than we think.  Perhaps the message is about how we are caretaking the world we’ve been given, or rather have abused, damaged, and taken for granted along the years expecting no repurcussions.  It is high time to return the bounty we were given don’t you think?

As we have seen with so many things, there is a cycle; plant, grow, reap…when we stop after reaping there is nothing to grow.  We cannot continue to skip the planting step and we have.  For too long, we have.  We cannot continue to take without returning something to replace the loss.  Whatever it is that we can do, we need to get to it before it’s a point where we can’t.  Plant, care, cultivate, share.  Not just the things like food and flowers.  Kindness, compassion, citizenship with the world, not just the one neighbor we see on the street whose name we don’t know.  We have to be doing better, or there will soon be nothing.  Nothing to give, nothing to gain, nothing.

How will you begin?

Brings to mind one of my favorite quotes: “Kind hearts are the gardens, Kind thoughts are the roots, Kind words are the flowers, Kind deeds are the fruits, Take care of your garden And keep out the weeds, Fill it with sunshine Kind words and kind deeds” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
